Enjoying a full tour of the 85m (279ft) superyacht O’PTASIA at the 2023 Mediterranean Yacht Show in Greece, YachtCharterFleet went behind the scenes to discover everything about this award-winning goddess of the seas.
Delivered in 2018, the yacht is built in steel and aluminum by Greek yard Golden Yachts to a design by Studio Vafiadis. Scooping the top prize in the power 65m+ category at the Design & Leadership Awards at FLIBS in 2019, it is clear that O’PTASIA is one exceptional yacht.
Booked for charter before she had even left the shed, the award-winning 85-meter superyacht set the new standard for luxury yachting with a raft of state-of-the-art amenities, technical innovations and entertainment options all set within elegant and sophisticated surroundings across her four guest deck levels.
With a brief conceived by Paris Dragnis, founder and chairman of Golden Yachts, long-time collaborator Giorgio Vafiadis turned the plans into reality, working with his son Stefano to style both superyacht O’PTASIA’s chic interior and striking exterior.
From the outside, there is an unmistakable fluidity to the motor yacht's exterior lines, with clever shaping harnessing her volume and recesses creating the perfect balance to her profile. Her interiors, meanwhile, use a chiaroscuro effect, showcasing a light palette that contrasts harmoniously with dark woods and onyx marble to create an overall tranquil and elegant effect, with a modern, crisp finish.
As we stepped into her grand open-plan main salon with its lofty ceilings the exquisite attention to detail was immediately evident. Using materials from Italy and Greece, among others, this 150-square meter space uses planet-friendly porous lati, glossy ebony and onyx marble to eye-catching effect.
Broken down into three zones, you are greeted with two white sofas facing each other across a glossy table upon entry, with silken-soft carpet caressing your every step. In the center, a horseshoe configuration of sumptuous taupe sofas are contrasted with glossy black coffee tables and glass lamps, with an ebony dining table for 12 positioned further aft. This area is partially hidden behind a wide central console housing a vast recessed TV screen, perfect for cozy nights on board.
Moving into the guest foyer, hints to the Owner’s playful nature become evident. Nowhere is this better expressed than in the Pink Floyd-inspired guest elevator, with a large neon blue triangle depicting The Dark Side of the Moon cover art that has become universally recognised.
On a side note, all the artwork on board is hand picked and curated by the Owner's sons, with nothing left to chance. Although the art is varied, there is heavy emphasis on playful Pop art, with mosaics and exquisite tactile pieces beguilingly adorning each space.
This elevator conveniently operates across all guest levels apart from her sundeck, with a separate elevator for the crew, ensuring discreet and top-notch service at all times.
There is also a day head on this main deck level, which is replicated in the same position on every level for convenience to her on board guests. This foyer connects all decks with a stunning illuminated onyx-clad central stairwell that leads down into her guest accommodation and to her upper saloon.
This vast multi-functional space forms the main social heart of her interior, where guests can enjoy everything from movies, games and parties to happy hour, which takes place religiously every day between 8-9pm. On our visit, a crew member was on hand to whip up delicious cocktails of our choosing, accompanied by exquisite hand-made canapes.
This inviting space plays host to a wide array of seating and is adorned by tactile artwork and sculptures, all adding a playful vibrancy to the ambience. The wide aft glass doors can be opened to create a vast indoor/outdoor space – perfect for entertaining large groups for shoreside functions. Floor-to-ceiling windows add to the harmonious atmosphere while offering stunning views of her surroundings.
Stepping outside, her voluminous beam of nearly 14-meters is clearly on show with a vast deck area, broken up by a large circular dining table, with a central lazy susan feature, and a bank of sofas lining the aft perimeter. We are informed this is the most popular place for charter guests to take their meals, with the deck overhead offering respite from the sun without detracting from the glorious views.
This deck comes alive on charter, with a different event being put on every day. This could be a karaoke session, musical night, themed party, barbeque or even a fireworks extravaganza. The crew also love to make movie keepsakes for the guests, incorporating these event nights, as well as harnessing the yacht’s high-tech drones to film destinations and other itinerary highlights along the way.
Heading up to her bridge deck, guests will be in raptures over her huge 6-meter swimming pool, where they can also relax and soak up the rays on the surrounding sunpads, with towels and sunscreen conveniently placed in baskets dotted around the perimeter.
On this same level, you’ll find sliding doors leading to a climate-controlled gymnasium kitted out with all the latest techno gym gear for supreme workouts. There is also a personal trainer among her crew, who will be on hand to devise tailored workouts throughout your charter, so no need to break your fitness regime while on board.
Her crowning top deck plays host to an array of seating areas served by a mini bar which doubles as a DJ booth and state-of-the-art sound system making this the perfect hub for parties. There's also a screen projector housed in the ceiling for movie nights under the stars.
Offering a six cabin layout, the majority of her guest cabins are located on her main deck where stunning over-water views can be enjoyed from each cabin. These comprise two doubles and two convertible double/twin cabins, with a vast VIP stateroom located further forward.
Each guest cabin is kitted out with a similar variety of materials used throughout her interiors, including dark ebony woods and onyx marbles. Some of the en suites are decorated in Pentelikon marble, which is the same variety used in the construction of the Parthenon in Athens. Other en suites feature a unique green marble found on the Aegean island of Tinos.
Her full-beam VIP cabin, meanwhile, boasts a huge walk-in-wardrobe, two TV screens and a wide superking bed. Materials used include beautiful soft leather on her walls and onyx marble for her elegant en suite featuring his and hers sinks and a Jacuzzi bath that is bestowed with glorious sea views.
Accessed via a corridor, a sprawling 105-square-meter master suite can be found on her bridge deck, with a separate private study that can also be used by her guests. Here you’ll find every desired office machine and technology needed to conduct whatever important business you may have while on board.
Overlooking this space is a huge black and white collage in feathers depicting Bridget Bardot by a popular French artist. This whimsical statement piece is truly spectacular and makes you appreciate the mastery of the artist.
Heading forward, the space opens out to a huge walk-in-wardrobe with enough room to house a fashion show. A valet service is also available to ensure the ladies expensive garments and dresses are treated with the utmost care and attention while on board.
Stepping into the master cabin, you are confronted by the 180-degree views across the bow, with a wide super king bed centrally positioned to take in the glorious vistas.
Meanwhile, the en suite is a vision of warm marble contrasted by dark woods, with separate heads and sinks, and an elegant bath. It's worth noting that each interior area has been designed with the notion that guests may spend up to an hour in each space, and nowhere is this best expressed than in the master bathroom. A marble-clad cocoon of luxury and style.
The master cabin also offers a private terrace, with direct access to her helideck for convenient door to door transfers. This helipad is certified, however when cruising in Greece it can only be used as a touch-and-go helipad.
Guests can control a variety of settings from Crestron iPad consoles available in each cabin, as well as throughout the yacht. Controls include blackout blinds, lights, temperature and sound systems. They can also access Netflix, Prime, HBO etc. from here, with an additional library of movies available at the touch of a button.
The yacht has also recently had Starlink Maritime installed, ensuring fast and consistent internet and download speeds wherever you cruise.
Her beach club is where this yacht really shines, with access either via external dual steps to her swim platform or from her main salon. This huge area encompasses a large central bar for refreshments during the day.
Her beach club also plays host to two massage rooms, with dedicated on-board masseuses on hand to deliver heavenly treatments all day long. Meanwhile, guests have the additional option of a sauna/steam room, with a convenient shower and day head opposite.
Guests have an additional casual dining option here as well, which offers beautiful views in a more informal setting.
With sumptuous sofas adorning the area, this is a prime space for relaxation where guests can enjoy sea-level views. Opportunities to relax continue on the wide swim platform, where curvy chaise longues can be deployed for guests wishing to soak up the rays. A recessed swim ladder can also be extended into the water for easy access to the warm Mediterranean seas.
The beach club is also equipped with the latest water sports gear, including seabobs, an electric foiling board and array of inflatables, with a choice of tenders stored out of sight in a garage further forward and launched separately from a side terrace.
These include a custom 9.75-meter Onda limo tender with high-end entertainment system and an open teak swim and boarding platform, as well as a custom Chris Craft tender, both capable of speeds of over 40 knots across the water.
With her vast array of crowd-pleasing amenities, luxurious interiors and 29 crew serving 12 guests, yacht charters on board O’PTASIA are guaranteed to be nothing short of spectacular.
